Perm to curly naturally curly (frizzy) hair?

I have naturally curly hair, it's nice and curly when it's short, but when it's long and layered the shorter hair is curly and nice, the longer sections are straight, giving me an overall look of a hobo.

I don't want short hair,it's not an option at all.

Some online research suggested that getting a curly-perm will help with the frizz and give me an even texture.

I really want to try it. . . but I have gray hair that I colour regularly (I've had lots of gray since I was 10).

I don't want to damage my hair too much.

Any advice?

Also if anyone who has naturally curly/wavy hair that got a curly perm, tell me if it was worth it.

Thanks.

Have you tried a mouse or gel in the longer parts and a frizz control product?

try a curling spray. its a styling product and aplying it when hairs wet it helps the friss and it enhances curls. its inexpensive and worth a try copmpared to the alternate soution of doing more damage with out trying options.

I think you would be safe doing this even with coloured hair. Perms have come a long way, and are fairly gentle now. The only thing I would caution you about is that since you have coloured hair, the perm may fade the colour a bit, so you may need to touch it up after perming so that the colour is more even.
