i have curly hair, and would like to know if its better to get your hair trimmed/cut when it is straight or curly? I have previously straightned it before having it cut and i dont seem to end up with a style that brings out the curl more. So should i have it straight or curly for cutting? can they cut hair when its curly and also is it best to get a dry or wet cut?

Yes they can cut hair when it is curly. Its best to have a wet cut though, then let them blow dry it straight, and they can finish it off like that, thats what I do with my hair and it comes out nicely, get them to deep condition your hair also, makes it feel much nicer.

I am a cosmetologist in NY, and the best way to cut curly hair is to do so with it wet and curly. The stylist should comb the sections of hair pulling the down nice and tight, and then while remaining a firm hold on the hair pull up, and then cut the desired length off. This is done to ensure that when you are done cutting and the hair is dry that it will not be shorter than expected when dry and curly, because as we all know curly hair will cinch up so to speak as it dries. Never let someone cut your hair dry, as it will lead to more split ends before your next cut, it is far too harsh on the hair. Just make sure you know exactly where you want your hair to lie when it is dry and curly after being cut, but always remember if you straighten it a lot, then it will fall just a bit longer than when it is curly. hey, i feel your pain! for years I have been going to hair dressers, really good hair dressers that you think that would know what they were doing and they always straighten it to cut it and it just doesnt work coz i dont were my hair that way . . . . then finally a few months ago i found a curly haired specialist and he was amazing!!! it looked at when it was curly and then cut it when wet . . . but didnt cut to much off and cut less on the bits that curl up more and wala . . he did a perfect job and even styled it curly without turning me into curly sue!! they should cut it curly! took me 23 yrs and many disaster to find a place i like!

Definitely curly. If you have it cut when it's straight, you'll either find your hair ends up shorter than you want, because the hairdresser has failed to realise how much shorter is when it's curly, or it'll be uneven. I have also had my hair cut into styles designed for straight hair because my hair is thin and it can easily be straightened. In either case I went with my natural curly look to the hairdresser and explained the situation. Defo get curly hair razor cut though!
