To parents with children who have curly hair?

well i expected my son to come out with a mop of curly hair on his head but found just the opposite. my husband is mulatto - meaning that in his case, he is half caucasian and half jamaican. i am caucasian. so our son has 1/4 jamaican in him and is 3/4 caucasian. my husbands hair is typically coarse with tight curls close to his head and my hair has natural soft ringlets which i got from my father, who it from his father, etc... anyways i guess my question is, if your child has curly hair or you know somebody, whatever, when did their hair first get curly? was it always that way or does it come in time? im really hoping he gets curly hair because for me as a child i HATED it and it made me feel different than others but as i grew older, i came to love it and how unique it makes me. ALL the time i get asked "where did you get your hair permed like that?!" and "theres no way thats natural!"... also, he has my hair textuer which is very soft (unlike my husbands who is coarse). any ideas?

At first when my daughter's hair was wet it looked curly but when I brushed it, it went straight. She is now almost 13 months, and when I brush it, it curls at the ends, It's starting to get curlier as she gets older. Maybe he will eventually get curly hair. You never know.

well, I have curly hair myself, but when i was little i remember it being straight. my mom had me get it cut real short before going into first grade and i hated it...after that it was always real wavy/frizzy...but.........i got my hair professionally done years later and had lots of it cut off cause i had just let it grow...and since then it has been curly. i think maybe if i had known better when i was younger how to take care of my hair (not to brush it, but rather comb when wet only)...plus gotten my hair cut properly on a regular basis, my hair would have shown its curls a lot sooner.

i understand, i just had a baby girl, and id like to see her get my curls eventually. :) everyone always seems so jealous of my natural curls!

My kids did not have curly hair when they were first born. It took time, usually the fine baby hair falls out.

My daughter is half caucasian and half african american and was born with a full head of wavy hair. She lost most of it and the new one looks a bit curlier. She's 7 months now, so who knows how is she gonna look in a couple of years! :)

If you have curly hair too, there are a lot of changes that your son's hair gets curlier with time, babies change a lot with time!

When my daughter was born, she had straight hair, then turned totally curly now. It took about 9 months before it got curly. Her mother has bone straight hair, I have curly hair, hispanic/taino indian. So, I guess, wait for about 10 more months before getting the curlz

Your sons hair may be soft now, but between the ages of 3-5, their hair starts to thicken. My eldest daughter had the silkiest strawberry-blonde hair, full of ringlets (it was straight until about one year of age). Now it is slightly coarser (she will be 5 at the end of Dec.), and the curls are straightening. My hair is wavy, and my husbands is curly. On the other hand, his curls may grow more pronounced. My niece's hair has grown so thick and curly that she has almost twice as much as both of mine combined.

My niece (who I help raise on a daily basis) has curly ringlets. It wasn't apparent until she was after a year old, and even then, only the ends curled out. We thought it would be wavy. When her hair got to the back of her neck, the ringlets formed and now she has curls everyone is envious of! Give it time and maybe his hair will change.

Well I am biracial (black mom + white dad) and my husband is tri-racial! (black/white mom + Indian dad). My hair was dirty blonde with loose curls when I was born, changing to it's current state of dark brown and wavy. My husband's hair is darker brown (near black) and wavy.

Our son was born with arrow straight dark hair that developed into beautiful soft loose curls as he grew older - around 7 months old. He is 2 yrs old now and his hair is a light brown colour with blonde streaks but it is straight again as it is kept cut short.

Our daughter was born with straight dark hair also, but it has begun to curl quicker. She is 5 months old and her hair is a cascade of Curly Sue type curls with reddish brown highlights.

Your son may end up with any combination of hair since he is multiethnic. You can never really guess beforehand. I'm sure his hair will be beautiful, curly or not.

Waiting and seeing is half the fun!

I dont know if this helps since im a girl and you have a son. but when I was born my hair was normal. Not trying to offend anyone but Im white, and until I was 4 I looked like i had white girl's hair. It was curly but soft, and manageable. Since then it's the opposite. Im 24 yrs old now and I look like I have a black relative or something. Literally. I've had people ask if my dad or mom was black. It's super curly, like the way you curl ribbon with scissors . It's got straight strands, curly strands, thick , thin, wavy, It's got everything. And to top it off it's SOOO THICK! My first daughter (who is almost5 yrs old)didnt even really have hair til she was 2 and the back is wavy curly , the rest is straight. And her hair is thin. My second daughter who's 14 months has hair like I did when I was born. Her hair is straight in front, and it's getting curly in the back and on the sides. I dont know if they'll have hair like me because I hope not. My grandmother on my mom's side was from Spain so I guess that's where my hair comes from. I dont know.

You never know. My mom was surprised cuz my cousin and her husband both have curly/wavy hair. They now have 4 girls, all with very straight hair! And yes, hair can change with time. One of my brothers had straight hair, and it recently changed to be more coarse and wavy than it was. He is 16.
