Why do us blacks associate curly hair as good hair?

I was in the store and I have naturally curly hair. So, a woman walked up to me and told me I have good hair. I was offended because that whole "good hair" thing is bullshit! Good hair is hair you know how to manage, not STRAIGHT OR CURLY HAIR! why can't people get out of this colonial mentality?

BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY CURLY HAIR IS HARD TO MANAGE! IT"S NOT JUST SOME WASH AND GO! I USE 6 hair products for one hairstyle!

閳俱儮娅旈埦锔规珪 This has been going on since the light skin females don't like the dark skinned females and vice versa. It is the same thing with good hair vice bad hair Think of the movie School Daze by Spike Lee that is where you can see what happened. I hope I have helped you.閳俱儮娅旈埦锔规珪

People tend to not think before they speak- even when they think they're giving a compliment

im white but i was in a beauty shop and a little 3 year old black girl had been there for 3 hours getting a relaxer so she could have straight hair like her adoptive white momma. i thought her hair looked good before she got all the relaxer put in. i totally agree with you

Some people just adore curly hair... some people have hair that no matter how much hairspray they put on it, it falls down like spaguetti, so you should be flattered somebody complimented your hair, it means that when you're walking around people notice you.

Good hair is hair with body, personality, movement-limp, stringy straight hair is bad hair. You have great hair, I gather. Be happy!

I feel you. I also have naturally curly hair. I just relaxed it. But before I did, my little cousin said "I wish I had good hair like you, my hair is nappy." She is 8, and I know she got that crap from her grandmother. I told her that her hair was beautiful, and I wish my hair was as full as her's. Letting her know that she is beautiful, exactly as she is. But she this mess being told to her by her family, and she is getting it from the media.

I hate kiddy relaxers. You have companies basiclly telling us from a very young age that we are defective in some way, based on the state of our hair. You don't see revlon coming out with blonde dye for little white girls, so what the hell is going on?

I don't have nothing against altering your hair dye it, relax it, whatever. But don't do it for your toddler.

I think it's just human nature to be envious of what others have. Curly haired people want straight hair and straight haired people want curly hair, etc. ,etc. What we don't like about ourselves is often a source of envy for someone else.

I am a firm beliver that "Good hair is healthy hair", no matter the texture. Some believe that the easier to comb the better the hair and that just comes from ignorance and no self love. But it's really sad because now I hear that comment coming from more than just black folk and that's not cute and I just heard this preteen black girl talking to her friends on the bus about how she wants her kid to come out with light skin and good hair. And I know this is mean, but when I hear people say that, I hope the child comes out with the toughest head of hair. Easy combing comes from hair care and patience.

It's a slave mentality that many blacks have. Curly, straight, hair is associated with "better." It goes along with the light-skin, dark-skin thing.
