Caring for Curly Hair?

I want tips on how to care for my curly hair. Before you say anything, I want it to look as natural as possible with using few hair products. Trust me, i've tried gel and mouse and I absolutely hated it.

I know that you're not supposed to shampoo it every day, and that curly hair needs more moisture than any other hair types. I have also learned that brushes and curly hair do not go together.

Basically, I just need some recommended products and tips for curly hair. I like mixing stuff up, so yeah. I've tried Garnier Fructis and products from WalMart, but they aren't that good. I just use Pro-V Pantene right now.

I also want a few pictures on how layered haircuts look on curly hair. I'm thinking of getting a new haircut. And is their any hair products that help your hair grow faster?

Thanks.

Caring for Curly Hair?

I have long curly hair and I also hate mousse and gel. They give you that stiff 80's video girl look. So here's what I do...

1) Wash every other day. When you do wash, only use shampoo at the roots. On days you don't shampoo, you can still wet your hair and use conditioner.

2) Don't rub with a towel to dry. Squeeze gently with a towel.

3) Use a frizz taming CREME. Cremes are generally moisturizing and don't dry stiff or oily.

4) Use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners.

5) Layers are great if they are long. Without layers, my hair looks like a big triangle. Long layers give it shape. Short layers give you poodle head. Keep 'em long.

6) Only brush before you get in the shower. Use a wide brush with wide spaces between the bristles.

7) Leave the conditioner in as long as you can. I shave my legs and wash my face while it sets in.

It took me 15 years to learn to deal with my hair. Now I get compliments from strangers. A far cry from the 15 year old me with finger-in-the-light-socket-hair. Hope it helps you!

i don't know what to tell you if you don't like mousse products."sunsilk" (green) may help and the after conditioner.... i'm really sorry i can't tell you more =(

Caring for Curly Hair?

i have curly hair and i got it layered and it had so much more bounce to it. if its long and not layered, it is usually weighed down. as for hair products, id try paul mitchell curl definer. i found it at a jcpenney salon. they have it baically at every salon. if you dont like that or ots too expensive, try sunsilk products. they work pretty well. but trust me, paying a lot for hair products is really worth it.

omygod do not get layers!!! layers are only made to volumize hair, and curly hair already has enough volume. using hot oil every couple of days reallly helps your hair. shiny curly hair is the best looking curly hair. Try and use a shampoo and conditionair for curly hair, herbal essences is nice - spelles great too!

and your right - never brush your hair, if you need to calm down flyaways, spritz some hairspray on tiolet paper and run the toilet paper gently over the top of your hair. Also, if you must blow dry your hair, do it upside down.

well this is all I can think of now, hope this helps!

Get LONG layers, it'll add more shape to your hair, but only slight, or you'll like a poodle. When I had my hair natural, it looked great. When you wash your hair, do it around 3 times a week, once with shampoo and twice with just conditioner and only comb/brush when wet. Mousse doesn't do shiz, just adds another layer of greasy. Use Aussie products, they're pretty good. They have this 'mousse' and it feels like water and keeps your hair soft and defined, shiny (and not in the i-just-put-alot-of-crap-in-my-hair-to-ge... shiny, either, it's really nice). You should be able to find it in WalMart or whereever. For Shampoo/conditioner try the Herbal Essences blue moisture one SO good.

Looked for pics and this one's pretty:

I also hate gel and mousse products, they leave my hair feeling stiff. I find that my hair looks best after doing an olive oil conditioning treatment. Apply olive oil to your hair and scalp, about 2 tbsp if you have long hair. Leave it while you do chores or something around the house and then shampoo twice. As far as shampoo, I make my own and use this recipe:

The oil treatment can be done once a month. To control frizzies on a day to day basis, I like either a tiny bit of a natural conditioner, like trader joe's "Nourish Spa" (no more than a pea sized amount) or a bit of coconut oil (again, just a little).

Hope this helps. Since I've gotten away from drying shampoos, my hair grows faster and feels a lot healthier.
