Japanese Hair Straightening for very curly hair?

I have very kinky/tight curly hair that has been relaxed with a thio relaxer (perm) a year ago. It has also been dyed about 5 months ago with a semi-permanent dye. I do not brush, blow dry, wash every day or flat iron my hair and use a leave in conditioner every day. I dont know if this makes a difference, I am white (Italian) but my hair is fine and could be closer to African American hair. (I tend to think those who say this may just be ignorant but not sure.) Anyway, do you think Japanese hair straightening will work for me? Is it safe to do at this point? I was told that as long as I did not use a hydroxide relaxer, I could do it over a thio one. Have you had it done on your very curly hair? How did it come out? Will it be completely straight?...Thanks, I really hope this process can help me; my hair is such a mess all the time, it depresses me.

Stick with the Chi straightener. I use Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner that straightens. They also have a nice straightening/heat protector. Try that before you shoot for chemicals.

  1. im in the same boat right now. sigh. i just washed my hair and air dried it without any products im looking at it in its natural state and its neither curly or straight i look like a chia pet(literally) its extremeley dry feels rough..its just one big puff ball. i can never leave the house without putting tons of serum and leave in conditioner. I love the beach but heaven forbid i go for a swim and let my hair airdry without putting anything in it as soon as i feel it drying i have to go back in the water and wet it again. its so horrible! my hair isnt so curly its just sooo dry i was born with really dry hair and even if i do oil treatments and moisturize it doesnt matter. it might help a little making it feel softer but i could never let my boyfreind play with my hair or run his fingers through it and when he does i bug out. i wouldnt mind my hair if it wasnt so dry..i want to do japanese straighening but i dont want this dry straw looking straight hair. the only thing stoping me its of course the cost but most importantly further dryness. i usually iron my hair and can get it really straight and smooth after tons of serum and shine spray but i cant dance in a club or else ill sweat and my hair will get curly. if im in a club where it can get very hott and humid or outside on a humid day and my hair is staight it doesnt just get curly it gets very puffy as if i let my curly hair dry and ran a brush through it literally. and all of u with curly hair know that u can never do that. my best freind has curly hair and when its humid out or she gets her hair a little wet in the rain after she has straighened it it still looks soft and healthy just not so sraight. My hair goes from the shiny white girl looking hair to rough you might think im half black it gets soo "afro looking" people have asked me that im serious just so u get an idea of how retarded it gets. i just want smooth jennifer aniston looking hair. curly air can be soo gorgeous when you have very healthy hair but unfortunately my curly hair is very dry that i have no choice to japanese straighten. anyone know a good salon in the NYC area? i am so scared of damage to my hair i dont know what stylist to go to. my hair is very dry and i need someone that knows how to deal with this type of hair. its not youre regular "caucasian" curly frizzy hair
